Donia Kamal discusses her novel at AUC Common Reading Program

Donia Kamal, author of Cigarette Number Seven, translated by Nariman Youssef (Hoopoe, 2018) participated in a wonderful discussion in late September, addressing students and professors of the Common Reading Program at the American University in Cairo, on the New Cairo campus.

Answering questions from moderator Doris Jones, Senior Instructor II of AUC’s Department of Rhetoric and Composition, the Egyptian writer talked about the characters in her novel, the specific choice of locations for her story, the Arabic to English translation, and (of course) the title!

The discussion was followed by a lively Q&A and a book signing. Click below to watch an extract of the discussion.
